Doing Me So I Don't Read You

When Power Collides: From Tennis Courts to Immigration Raids

Hertis & Tiffani Season 1 Episode 5

From tennis championships to social justice crises, this week's conversation weaves through the threads of a rapidly changing world with our signature blend of humor and hard truths.

The sporting world delivered historic moments as Carlos Alcaraz made tennis history with his back-to-back French Open victory, becoming only the second man to achieve this feat after Novak Djokovic. His unprecedented comeback from three match points down during the longest French Open final ever had us glued to our screens. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff claimed her own piece of history as the first American woman since Serena Williams to win at Roland Garros, though her victory was somewhat overshadowed by her opponent's less-than-gracious post-match comments.

Beyond the courts and arenas, we dive deep into disturbing social developments affecting vulnerable communities across America. The abrupt closure of Job Corps centers has left countless low-income young adults essentially homeless with their belongings in garbage bags and futures in limbo. This crisis, coupled with escalating immigration raids that have targeted families at elementary school graduations, reveals troubling patterns in how society treats its most vulnerable members.

The conversation takes unexpected turns as we examine the very public falling out between tech billionaire Elon Musk and former president Donald Trump, consider the implications of corporate "allyship" during Pride Month, and even coin our own term—"Gay Plus"—as a more inclusive alternative to the ever-expanding LGBTQ+ acronym.

Through laughter and serious reflection, we remind ourselves and our listeners to stay vigilant, pay attention to what's happening around us, and find joy where we can. Because in times like these, sometimes you need to laugh to keep from crying.

Join us for this wide-ranging conversation that captures both the headline moments and the human stories behind them. How are you navigating these challenging times?

Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to Doing Me. So I Don't Read you Hello. So how you guys doing. It's another beautiful Wednesday, it is, it is. But let's see, you know a lot of things are happening in this world. In the past few days is the last time you heard of things that are happening. So let's see On the agenda today, since I just watched it for the men's final for tennis, so we're going to talk about that for a little bit.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, so I saw I forgot his name already. Alvarez, there you go, alvarez Got him. Yep, I remembered his name. So yep. So he won back-to-back championships. He won last year and that game was awesome. I called it like the second half of the part and I watched the whole thing, so that was fun. I guess he had some history he made, because I think he's the only second person in men's to win back-to-back in the French Open. The last person was Donovich. I don't think that's his name.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you're saying it right.

Speaker 1:

So he's the second person to ever do it, to do back-and-back here, and he's I guess they said that he's the first person in history he had beat a lot of records today the first person in history, I think, to come back from three match points.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, from he came back from being down From three match points yep, he broke a little Because the other's been like one match point or two. He's the first person in history to do from three match points, came back and won, and then this was like the longest from the, I guess, french Open, the longest it's ever been For the time the time. Yeah, it's been the longest too from the French Open. So like today, was it.

Speaker 2:

Because he's young. He's only 22.

Speaker 2:

I just heard that he turned pro only seven years ago, so he turned pro in 2018. So like he came up on the scene, like who is this? Was this Spanish guy, carlos? Yes, Carlos Carles. He's nice though I like him. I like him as a tennis player. I saw his match maybe three years ago. That's when I first really started paying attention to him. I didn't even know who he was. On the other, on the man side, I don't really pay attention to as much as the man side of the tennis, unless I connect with one of them Like oh, okay, then I'll watch it more.

Speaker 1:

The only time I really watched it beforehand was either Nadal or what's the other guy, what's big too. At the time, it's just an F.

Speaker 2:

Oh Fernan.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to say Fernan, but that's not it. I'm going to say Fernan for some odd reason, but that's somebody else's important last name.

Speaker 2:

Fernaners Fernandez no, no, no.

Speaker 1:

I don't.

Speaker 2:

I believe his name was that was the real. Oh, it was a short term. Yeah, I can't think of, I can't think of his name.

Speaker 1:

I don't have no clue what his name is either, but he was one of the big ones too at that time, like the big male person that was like a while ago male person that was like a while ago. That's when I kind of paid attention to them. And then, of course, you said Novick. Yeah, that's the one, that's the one, and then.

Speaker 2:

Nadel.

Speaker 1:

Nadel yeah, uh-huh. And then the other one was sort of the F, or is that something sort of the F or?

Speaker 2:

I couldn't see. Look, see, look, I told you I don't see, I told you I don't really deal that much with the men now, the women I can name god damn all of them. So I know it could be. It's not, he's not from the US no, he's not, he's.

Speaker 1:

I think he's in one of the in the European countries. Yeah, okay, yeah, I forgot his name, I know no pick.

Speaker 2:

I think he's in one of the European countries. Yeah, okay.

Speaker 1:

I forgot his name.

Speaker 2:

I know Novik, but and Rafael Nadell, I always knew him.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

And then Stephanos. So are you talking about Zerbik or Zerbeck?

Speaker 1:

No, no, no. He was probably almost playing at the same time when, probably before, serena left.

Speaker 2:

Oh, okay, so you're talking about.

Speaker 1:

But he was in that. No, but before she he was still doing it when she left.

Speaker 2:

So in 2018.

Speaker 1:

But he kind of left a little bit, maybe a little bit after that.

Speaker 2:

Roger Roger Fender Fender. Roger Roger Federer F-E-D-E. Federer Federer Roger, yeah, his first name is Roger.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, roger Federer, I think that is.

Speaker 2:

Federer, that's him.

Speaker 1:

Uh-huh 2018.

Speaker 2:

Because those are the main three. It would be Novick, oh Federer and Roger Federer, yeah there we are.

Speaker 1:

See, I knew something about it. I knew something about the F. Well, I said Fernando, but okay, yep, I mean you knew what they were talking about.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that was a long match. They went six hours, basically, right.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, because I think it lasted myself five hours and 34 minutes.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that. I think it left my soul like five hours and 34 minutes. Yeah, that's basically it. That made me tired looking at it.

Speaker 1:

That was.

Speaker 2:

I was like give up, Don't give up, but just keep going. But damn.

Speaker 1:

Yes, and then, speaking of that, of course, then I saw for golf that she won.

Speaker 2:

Yes, Cocoa Golf.

Speaker 1:

Yes, she won.

Speaker 2:

Yes, against Arena.

Speaker 1:

Yep and that was a good match, too Good match too.

Speaker 2:

Yes, because they went to the final or to the first match, the extra amount of points. And that's where Arena, she won the first Yep, and then Cocoa she came in like a vintage, a second she won 6-2.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that one, that one, she won.

Speaker 2:

Yes, and then the final one she came back. Yeah, she won again 6-4. But, what I love about Coco like, because Coco like she's very young too and she's been the first. Like you said, they're doing different. They've been breaking records, like she has been the first american and not waiting for women to even win in the french open, since who you just?

Speaker 2:

spoke the goat serena, oh yeah, and like, for instance, coco just turned 21 oh yeah, two months ago, the girl Like she's young as fuck and she's amazing, but I just like I saw the press conference afterwards and like they did that to Serena when Serena won the French the same, not the same person, but the opponent, they basically Arena. Or what she's going to say is if Coco, if the semifinalist, would have came and won the final, she wouldn't have been there arena, would have been there playing as coco, coco would have lost. And she also said how um, it's not that coco was good or did good, it's just that I didn't have a good game. Like you were just throwing so much shade if you're to take this L with your little saltine stuff, because you're a little bit salty, with your little saltine crackers. Talking about the rounds, I ain't saying nothing else, I'm talking about the crackers. You guys Like what you eat because you're a little bit salty. You showed it.

Speaker 1:

You couldn't have said both things Like oh yeah, I had a bad game and she did, she played well, because both happened. I think both could be happening, like yeah. So it's like yeah, I did.

Speaker 2:

Both could be true, because they didn't watch the match. Coco did her goddamn thing. So even if you had an off day, that one just don't say this young girl is good and it's not like, like you said before, she's ranked. What coco was ranked what a second right.

Speaker 1:

So it's not like she's un before she's ranked.

Speaker 2:

What Coco was ranked. What a second right. So it's not like she's unranked yeah that'll be different if she's an unranked opponent that just came out of nowhere and luckily which you cannot do in tennis beat all these different ranked players yeah to the finals? There's no, you can't. Tennis is different. I mean, sometimes you can look up in different sports and be a uh, you know, oh, my goodness, I can't believe they beat them or that it happens. Team sport yeah individual sport.

Speaker 2:

You're not going to be an unranked, never been heard of tennis player to make it to the finals in the french hope, because you got to be um ranked any, basically way and be known to even win. That's the difference with tennis. You got to win certain different ones prior to even be on the map, to even be invited to go to these tennis masters. That's what people don't get. You did all kind of disrespectful shit and it's your go on and I don't care what anybody says. You still look hard in the face. They need to check her. While they're talking about you had an off game and a couple of years ago they need to check your testosterone levels. You look kind of manly Even when she talked. Well, one way. It's not that I had a, she was good, but I just had a hard game and I was off on the game. So yeah, I mean.

Speaker 2:

Ooh, it's a lot going on. So, that's good they started off with the sports.

Speaker 1:

Yes, yep, that was exciting for the tennis. Yeah, for the past. Yeah, these two days, yeah, I was like, oh, look at me watching sports.

Speaker 2:

Look at you, ooh, look at you watching sports. Look at you. Look at you watching sports Because you know that's every blue moon yeah, me is every other day or every day. But then I get tired of sports because they start to get on my nerves. So I don't watch it as much as I used to, but I do watch it. Y'all, I do.

Speaker 1:

But I can't help it. And speaking of the sports, that's reminding me because I was watching it. Not even watching, but heard about it when I was working. What's the team name in the basketball? The one guy who made the two-point?

Speaker 2:

Indiana Pacers yes and I just saw the last clip.

Speaker 1:

What the hell his name is? I forgot, but whatever Hella Burton. And he made the shot. When it was like that, I was like at the end of the buzzer. It was only one point that they won from.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so he played for the Indiana Pacers and, speaking of that, the NBA series Is Oklahoma Thunder Versus the Indiana Pacers, which we had talked about Shortly in our last podcast. I'm like I don't know if people are really going to pay attention because they're not probably expecting those two teams to even be in the finals period. But yeah, he did. He made the buzzer beater to take game one and it was on Oklahoma Thunder's home court and that's how he kind of did the same thing with the Knicks, but it went in overtime because they thought it was a three to end the game, but his foot was on the line, so it was on a two-pointer and that tied the game and then it went into overtime and of course they beat the Knicks in overtime.

Speaker 2:

That's what they did to the Knicks. They beat the Knicks twice on the home court and that helped them. Then of course, they, visiting with the Indiana Nick's, got one game out of that. But same thing now with OKC, so it'll be at OKC. I think they play again the game should probably be tonight.

Speaker 1:

I thought it was pretty close. It's going to be coming happening again sometime.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so they're going to best on the NBA. Like I said, it's the best of seven. Like how they do within the 10, it's the best of seven, but they have played to the night.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, I kind of knew it. Okay, I had a feeling that it was sometime this week.

Speaker 2:

It had to be because it was yes, that's a seven and they go back and forth, and back and forth. But again, sometimes I think stuff be all fixed, but not that. That was a buzzer beater, that wasn't no fix. You can't. You can't write that up now, when they just go and be winning by 20 and they throw the ball away and they miss shots on purpose and they foul a person and they all do the other stupid stuff.

Speaker 2:

Yes, that can be done. You can do that. You can shoot the ball purposely to miss it or shoot it too hard, like I get. I believe that stuff because it's all about money.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that was cool.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he did that. His dad no longer, I guess, is banned because he was banned in the previous game. Of course someone went in front of the player and showed his son shirt and called him. What the F, what the fuck? Now? You dumb ass bitch Like come on, daddy, if you don't get your at least you were riding for his son.

Speaker 2:

That was amazing he don't show the mom. He little yellow, he little fresh yellow. You know he got a little his mama. She don't show different. But the dad, yeah, the dad was on one, but no, that's cool, but it's been a lot going on, like you said, in the past week. Y'all need y'all to be safe and pay attention and live y'all life, because they are really Messing up. The two people who had a fallout, which I knew, oh, the two bitches, I knew they would be there.

Speaker 1:

It took me a minute To realize what are you talking about. Now I realize who you're talking about, oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

I, I realize who you're talking about. I'm like oh yeah, I knew what's happening.

Speaker 1:

I knew it would come shortly. I listened to that at work as well, too. I was like, oh, look at that. I was listening to all the people that talked about it. I'm like, hmm.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that Elon man and then the tangerine. Yeah, I knew that was coming, because it's only going to take so long because people in power a lot of them are narcissists anyhow. They can't have two narcissists trying to run the show. I mean, when that little baby was only what? Three years old or four, and came in there and told him shut the fuck up, and you ain't the president, that should have told y'all right then and there where he's hearing that from which he would just use as a bait to just show but get out the chair, you're not the president. Shut the fuck up, or come on, man. The little boy is four years old. Telling him that man talking about, yeah, he about to do everything his teflon's in the blemish of his prices, and I mean, um, how much money they make off of him, his sales are not doing well and maybe his way to get people back on X. But you know they're all actors to me if you ask. But he telling the truth, like that part I do believe, because this is the fault I was.

Speaker 1:

I don't think they're going to get people back on X because basically people are going to look at it on the news and stuff. The Mazda will not even do it because most likely people are going to print it out and look at it.

Speaker 2:

Right, we're going to print it and see it. I ain't been on X until I don't even know, since I guess before X was X, it was called Twitter. I've been using that a long time ago, years ago. So I agree. But I can see it on other social media platforms and you see the same thing.

Speaker 2:

He says Don't reshare it because everybody like drama. And it's interesting because during the election, when he won, he said I think Elon must help win this election. If y'all didn't notice that the moment that he said he was on his team. I ain't saying none of y'all was wrong for going to the polls, but y'all should have known then it was a done deal. This man was going to steal it anyway. So now Elon's saying it Yep, thanks for me, you're the one. While you're in office, keep talking with no, oh, you're on the.

Speaker 2:

He didn't release the Epstein files because he's in it. We've already seen it. The man says he grabbed people by the cuffs. You know what I'm trying to say. So it's interesting, but it's all good, it's just fucked up. You know what I'm recently seeing with that? Vanilla Ice, ice, baby, too Cold, too Cold. No, what they doing Pulling up on the people on the west coast. They different type of people, you know. Those are different kind. Those are not the same kind that you had in Texas and Florida, my boy, they different. But I'm glad that we sitting this one out and we been sitting it out, although I can say this may not belong to nobody, but the ingenious people right. So, honestly speaking, they're the ones who should be saying kick all of our answers out, to be honest. But some, a lot of people have their legit way as for documentation, legal, wise, and they're still waiting and they've been waiting for years because it's so backed up, so but they people work hard and they and they contribute to this country.

Speaker 2:

What a lot of us do. The thing that I have an issue a concern not concern an issue with is there's so many of different people that are brown okay, that don't like us, and what I'm saying. That doesn't mean it's black people at all. And they say we're lazy and we don't do this and we don't know. Some of us are fucking lazy, trust and behold, and a couple y'all may hear this y'all know a couple of our family members that are lazy. You know our friends, but not all of us are.

Speaker 2:

So for y'all to just show y'all own hatred because you think that you're better than the people who have already been you know what I'm saying treated horribly in history, lesson of black people, of slavery, y'all ain't paying. Y'all thought y'all was untouchable. You sure y'all really thought y'all was untouchable. And always I just think about those. I was dope, I was dope, I was boat they don't even say boat Now. Y'all see what's going on. That's what y'all picked off of y'all hatred. You know what I mean. It's like them, little people in the trailers, trailer park people, same with y'all. Yeah, let's go for them and look what's happening. Y'all ain't got y'all snaps, no more, do y'all. What's going on with y'all kids? What on with your kids? What's going to happen to them? I mean, it's fucked up with the job corps what they did.

Speaker 1:

That's what I heard. I was looking at the news thing too and I heard about that or something on YouTube and they were talking about that as well, or somebody like independent media people on YouTube. Now they were talking about the job corps things. I think it's one of the people it was like a court that said, denied it or blocked it, but then of course you could always appeal and all other things. But that's one of the things about Job Corps and they were talking about. You know, it was weird that you wouldn't think, well, why would you want to disband that when it helps? Now I really realize, because it haven't been out of the news yet for it, oh yeah, but realize that it targets low income families for people to like start. So that's a while.

Speaker 2:

And the craziest part is like for Job Corps, like the nation's largest free resident career training education program, like you said, for low income young adults from the ages of 16 to 24. So the thing of it is not like it's not like they're doing any. They're not doing anything. They are really working at different places that no one wants to hire and to help this economy, and not only that, to change your life around.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

So the fact that y'all just closed it, y'all gave them a warning that this was supposed to happen at the end of June. Right, they did this, june 1st, the first weekend, and none of that didn't give them kids nowhere to go. They don't know where to go. They have to pack their belongings in garbage bags and different stuff, like that suitcases they have. They have to pack their belongings in garbage bags and different stuff, like that suitcases they have. They're homeless.

Speaker 2:

So all this is causing is more what crime rate to go higher, because what else are they going to do with themselves? Not only that, mentally they're, they're fucked up because they thought they were doing the great thing and it's just like it's. And, like you said, yes, the judge did temporarily block the job force center after closing, but there's so many people that it's already closed. And then you got to think about it. The staff, they don't have a job Because that was their job as well. Like, what are these kids supposed to do? And you're seeing them.

Speaker 2:

It's just, it's crazy, man. It's not even crazy. I just told y'all we done, told y'all all times it's time, man, y'all better listen to what I always say Live life happy on purpose, figure it out, because life is life and right about now this admin is showing y'all them, pissing everybody the fuck off. All these countries is pissed the fuck off. They used to be our allies. Now they hate us Like fuck y'all. I want to go and talk to every countryman and say look us, black and brown, we not the ones Don't come after us. When y'all come and want to do stuff to us, can y'all pick certain people?

Speaker 1:

No, I think people know what the problem is, not like everybody else. People are here like this, that we know. I think a lot of the people are here like this, we know. I think a lot of the people are here like, yeah, we get it too. We don't understand why you mad, there's only one person who's really doing it just out of the All, his whole thing, just doing it out of nowhere, like can't you just take a break one time? One time, one month. One month, take a break.

Speaker 2:

Take a break. And then he's still, and now some of his own people are like oh, we didn't know it was supposed to be this.

Speaker 1:

Y'all do. It gets me, because there's people like oh, I didn't read it, so you didn't read the thing that you decide for.

Speaker 2:

No.

Speaker 1:

That's going to be hurting a whole bunch of people. You didn't read it, mm-mm. And people are like, no, that's right right.

Speaker 2:

It just shows you that it's a laughing. It's a laughing stock and they got they're gonna do martial law. They got these people, um, attacking all these people now in los angeles. It's now some different, different places. Now it's different cities, so I'm just saying los angeles in general, so like, for instance, uh, what you just said, like y'all didn't read this bill, y'all do this. My whole thing is y'all coming after these people who at first were peacefully protesting against the horrible immigration law and what the Ice, ice Baby, too Cold, too Cold is doing. However, and you get it why I'm saying Ice, ice Baby, too Cold, too Cold. I apologize, I'm not saying the other parts, I'm not like doing something wrong for anybody who belongs to the Bidenite. But also there's an old school rapper or whatever. They are a colonization Anyhow. Ice, ice Baby. They didn't use none of that in January 6th when they attacked the White House and people were being attacked.

Speaker 2:

Where are all that Blue Lives Matter there? I cannot stand the blue lives matter, because who's blue? There's nobody on this earth that's blue. I mean, let me take that back. There is people that are blue. You know that movie where it's the blue ones in the head of locks, avatar what was it Avatar? Yeah, so blue people do exist. And then if y'all believe in aliens but I don't think they do I think they're just walking around like real ass motherfuckers.

Speaker 2:

To be honest, and one of them may be in the office that was Elon. He looked like he was downgrading that stuff the moment. I saw that video when he looked like he was extra high like a kite and I don't know if it was him or if his what is it called? His machinery was going out and they had to reboot him real quick. He looked like he was high as a kite.

Speaker 2:

When I saw that, I said, oh yeah, some shit about to come down. It's some shit that's about to come down. So all we doing is having fun putting our boots to the ground and going to concerts. But I think they're really still trying to do that and they're falling for it on what they're doing with their emotions, because they're going to do martial law and it's going to fuck all of us up like y'all just going to do martial law just for Los Angeles, because all these other cities we ain't protesting like that. We mind our business and it's sad. I saw the other story too. They came into a graduation, not a high school graduation, but elementary graduation for preschoolers and kindergarteners. I saw the other story too they came into a graduation not a high school graduation but elementary graduation, for preschoolers and kindergarteners to graduate.

Speaker 2:

And I saw a teacher because he's in a neighboring school and he's crying Like he was a black man. He said because their school they said to do a lockdown but they school knew it had nothing to do with a lockdown. It was this neighboring school Ice ice baby, too cold, too cold, ended up coming there and those parents was running and scattering Like when people turn on the lights and the bugs scattered everywhere. It's not a laughing moment but I have to do that to like sometimes you gotta laugh to not cry Because we are in some horrible times. Those babies, they said, were just holding on to their teachers and crying because they're seeing their parents running. They don't have nowhere to go to.

Speaker 2:

And then when they take them to go to court, what they going to say? They're five and six year olds. When they say, where you know anybody to take you, what they going to say I don't know, I don't know. Pride is pride in right now and we're supposed to be happy, but happy times it's not showing no happiness because they know I'm glad.

Speaker 1:

So it's happening, because I know they're trying to do take some stuff for pride too or something. But I'm like at this moment you might be having, uh, different protests or things for everything now. So at this moment it's going to be probably each month going to somebody protest for something, because you just take it, so get used to it. Now You're about to get protested for anything.

Speaker 2:

But the old school gays, they still always stay happy, they didn't need no sponsorships and all that. That's our generation, new generation.

Speaker 1:

But I feel like, oh, they're going to do stuff. I'm like did they think that Pride's not going to be something, or events aren't going to still happen? For Pride it's still going to be. You know, now, probably even more now. Now they're going to be doing really now. Oh, now I want to turn over, and now we're going to really show y'all.

Speaker 2:

What we need to do, too, is the people who is paying attention. Pay attention to these companies and if y'all have stocks and investments or 401k, take that shit out. It's different than saying, oh, I don't want to shop there, no more, I don't want to go there. Yeah, it is, but hurt them where they hurt, that's they monies and that's showing their true colors, like behind. It's kind of like I look at it like those clan member people. They be afraid to show who they truly are, but they want to act some type of way and cover themselves Like let me know, because you are my local, probably doctor, judge, police officer or you know what I'm saying or sheriff, to be honest, it'd be the sheriffs and y'all want to show y'all selves.

Speaker 2:

So that's what these companies, a lot of these companies, didn't care about people with disabilities, people of other ethnicities or people who are gay no, I'm not saying gay, lgbtq, y and they're all Z, because there's just too much letters. I can't keep up, no more. They keep adding more letters to the alphabet. I don't know, no more. We're going to be, everybody's going to be involved.

Speaker 1:

That's why they put a plus, because it's everything that's made it LGBTQ plus.

Speaker 2:
