Doing Me So I Don't Read You

The World Keeps Spinning: WNBA, Wimbledon, and New Laws

Hertis & Tiffani Season 1 Episode 8

Summer heat brings sizzling conversations on this episode as we dive into our Pride Month adventures while looking ahead to July's major developments in sports and legislation.

Pride Month may have ended, but we're still buzzing from the celebrations! I share my experience seeing drag royalty Lydia Butthole Kollins from Season 17 (now on All Stars 10) and supporting local drag king Persia Kay at a theater viewing party. These community gatherings reminded us why Pride matters year-round, even as we nursed our post-celebration recovery days!

Sports fans will appreciate our deep dive into Wimbledon tennis drama, where we dissect some apparent tensions between players while celebrating performances from competitors like Coco Gauff. We transition to celebrating Angel Reese's record-breaking WNBA season, highlighting how she continues to silence critics with triple-doubles and consistent dominance in just her second professional year. Speaking of WNBA, we discuss the league's expansion plans and Asia Wilson's coveted sneaker line that keeps selling out before I can get my hands on them!

The conversation takes a more serious turn as we break down the numerous laws taking effect in July, particularly in Georgia. From transgender sports bans to the Survivor Justice Act (which provides relief for abuse victims who commit crimes under duress), these legislative changes will impact many communities. We conclude with an important warning about immigration enforcement actions targeting Haitian communities and the potential for racial profiling. Stay informed, stay vigilant, and most importantly, stay true to yourself. Subscribe now and join our conversation about navigating these complex times together while celebrating the things that bring us joy.

Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome back to Doing Me.

Speaker 2:

So I don't read you.

Speaker 1:

Hello, welcome back guys. Let's see, I'm trying to figure out what we was talking about last time. But when y'all see this, well, pride Month is done, ended. No, sad, sad, sad, but I still had a good prime month. Same thing, nothing really was different. I'm really too big, but still pretty good in general, so that's a good news. Let's see. Nothing else that I could think of on my side that was important or busy.

Speaker 2:

Busy. Oh, you went to see one of the drag well-known.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I was like, yes, I did go see, it was this past Saturday. I was like, yes, I did go see, it was this past Saturday. I went to go see the drag queen, lydia Butthole Collins. She was on season 17. And now she's on the recent All Stars 10. So I saw her. That was exciting. It was fun, did that? Then I still went out to my gay bars local ones. I left there. Yeah, so that was my Saturday and, yep, I was recovering the whole day after that. On that Sunday, I recovered the whole day.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you went in. Yeah, I did my little tipple stuff that I can do. I had a good set. That was a great one. That was at the end of the month of before we did our last one.

Speaker 1:

Oh, yes, the last school.

Speaker 2:

That was funny and good. I have some more new people following through or not. Went out to a bar crawl and interesting that I don't drink, but so that don't change the fact that I have DJs and music playing. I'm just looking at people I can't talk about right now, but it's an unfortunate situation. People are crazy. People are just cray cray. Just keep it at that. But other than that, that's it. Oh, and I did. Went to view and support for King of Drags.

Speaker 1:

Yep.

Speaker 2:

So Persia Kay and she had viewing or you can view it at the theater location. It was dope. A lot of people showed up and just to watch the actual episode too, and then to see with her, within uh breaks of it, she'll talk or not. And then the other, uh, drag drag king, who's here locally, is well known as well, so that was pretty cool, um, to do that and interact. And then, of course, her with me being silly, she ain't got all up there. So that was a good time, you know, looking into that. It's really good you guys look into it. I think they only have like four episodes left, so that's interesting.

Speaker 1:

That's about it yep, but I know that once y'all hear this, by the time Tiffy got what two more shows coming up. So by the time I see this, it'll be one show that she already did and then one that she's going to be doing on the day Wednesday this comes out, so we'll see.

Speaker 2:

The first week of July. Yeah, it is true, yep, first week of July. I have those. I'm looking to it and interested in the one I don't think I recall I was talking about when I was doing a mic and I'm leaving out. I said the girls, they had some food. I'm like, oh, your food looks good. Y'all should come to the comedy show, come in. They're like oh, and one girl's like, oh, you're Tiffy. And I was like, oh, tiffy, tool time.

Speaker 2:

And the other girl's like, oh, I wasn't there and we were just talking about it. I'm like whoopsie Bessie look they pulling up, remembering when the girl came place together. That's all I'm talking about. Y'all, come on, keep booking. Y'all go ahead. Look at me, come find me tippy tool time. Y'all can book me. It's on my IG how to reach out to me to book me for comedy shows. I can do improv. I can do birthday parties.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to be above.

Speaker 2:

Is that right?

Speaker 1:

I know. So I was looking because I was on today and I was like you know how I have my little main sets and I'm like oh, yeah, the Wimbledon is happening. Yeah, the Wimbledon is happening.

Speaker 2:

Yes, but the Wimbledon is happening. I was like it came out of nowhere and it came so fast.

Speaker 1:

Do they get a break? No, do they ever get breaks, really for tennis people? Because I'm like weren't y'all just at the France doing the French Open? But now you're in London or somewhere right and doing the french open, but now I got in, uh, in london or somewhere right and doing a bibliting. I'm like yes, I'm like almost maybe, yeah, like a week or two break and that was it, and then going right back to it so a uh from women's singles.

Speaker 2:

She advanced today she won coming from the us of that side.

Speaker 2:

I honestly feel and that's just me personally that's a PR little stunt, with Coco in there. I ain't forgiving you either, because you said exactly how you feel with all that passive-aggressive stuff. Let's do a TikTok and see we French, we look we do TikTok. No, that is a PR stunt. And let's do a TikTok and see we French, we French, we look, we do TikTok. No, that is a PR stunt. And Coco takes the high road Because we always. Why we always got to take the high road. You know what I'm saying. We always got to be nice and play nice, but you know it is what it is. We know what the truth is. You don't really care for her. You don't show no respect and when she does play, I don't know when her match will be, not Coco, but whatever the fact that I ain't even going to say your name because I don't care about you, I hope they boo the shit out of her, honestly speaking, in Wilmington.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I didn't see, I didn't watch. No, she already played. She did night one, which was today. She already did night one Coco's tomorrow, july 1st. So I didn't know how, if they did or not. I wasn't seeing any information.

Speaker 2:

I was looking for it. I wasn't looking at it either.

Speaker 1:

To see if anybody did it or not.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I mean we ain't forget. But some people are easily distracted and we do forget things. But it is what it is. On the man's side, I figure who's going to go in. We'll see if US can pull it through. Some of us at least make it through some rounds Man-wise.

Speaker 1:

And female as well.

Speaker 2:

As long as it be good, good tennis matches. I just love good tennis matches. Thank you for bringing that up, because I was focusing too within by the time you heard this. Yes, oklahoma Thunder. They won championship for the men's NBA.

Speaker 2:

So now the focus has been on the women's WNBA side and they don't get no rest. You're speaking of that. Somebody had mentioned about people being in shooting slumps. And then Kelsey Plum she is so hilarious, she's like shit, we tired, but they just be back, back, back back and they just do too much for their little short period of time for women in the wba to figure that out. But they did announce today they're going to do four expansion teams between the year of 2027 and moving, but they still don't. They still don't pay attention. They so damn stupid. Because the main places that y'all need to have these Hispanic teams are major cities that love sports. Miami for one. That should be one of the places that they should have, but definitely in Houston, because Houston used to have the team of the Houston Comets. So we'll see how that is.

Speaker 1:

So we'll see how that is. Oh yeah, it was weird. I don't know where I saw this from, but I saw that this year maybe next year, one of those 2028 or something like that they're bringing back for the games the NCAA for basketball. They're bringing that game back for college basketball for like the 2K or something. They're bringing it back. They're bringing that game back for the college basketball for like the 2K or something. They're bringing it back.

Speaker 2:

They're bringing it back Because of the brothers that had sued at the time and that it was well-deserved from UCLA because of the NIL. You know the likings. Now that they can get paid. You know college athletes.

Speaker 2:

That's what that was from and that's why they had to put a pause on the game EA Sports, madden or whatever EA Sports or college Yep. I know my girl is kicking ass, so that's all that matters to me, what you're going to say about it now, y'all haters, because Angel Reese is showing y'all why she is who she is.

Speaker 1:

I saw something else about her too. I was about to bring that up. I saw that she's another record that she broke because she did number 15. Was it rebounds? 18 plus or rebounds, I don't know what? In four In four, so she's been doing record breaking. I guess she's like oh yeah, and women's do set, so doing so she's been like doing record breaking.

Speaker 2:

I guess she's like oh, yeah, and women's to do set so and doing that, so, yeah, yeah, she's doing like she's doing a lot. A lot is taking taking place in, uh, when she's broken so many records and she continue to do it.

Speaker 2:

This is only her second year and then she's doing overall, like I mean, my girl's doing triple doubles. You know I'm trying to say so, say what you want. She's amazing. So I mean it's just good for the entire sport. And then asia wilson I still haven't even got a hold of the first pair of sneakers, and now she did the princess and the frog ones with the colors, and she balled out that day too. I'm like she keep coming up with all these different colors for her eight, um, eight ones. I just need to get a hold of the first pair, the pink or the blue. They keep being sold out.

Speaker 1:

So if y'all need, a pair.

Speaker 2:

Just send them to me. I'm not about to pay no $500 for y'all because y'all purchase them and then you want to resell them for an up up price. I'll squeeze my toes in a size that don't matter, it's the worm for that day. I'll be hurting when I get back home, toes be throbbing and shit, but it's the thought that counts. I got me some A1s, but I was thinking about it.

Speaker 2:

Speaking of that, when you're talking about records kind of jump into something different. But remember I would mention like in the month of July, stuff's really about to hit the fan. So, depending on what state you are in, you should pay attention to what laws were passed. So if you're in the southern states like starting tomorrow, state of Georgia, in different places they are banning transgender girls for competing because we talk about sports and girls sports at public schools and colleges. That's what they had banned. Also, the Dignity and Pay Act when they end. Sub-minimum wages for disabled workers is full minimum wage required for 2027. Why we gotta wait for 2027? We disabled, give us the stuff now.

Speaker 2:

We gotta wait two more years by time, then two more years. I don't end up depending on my disability if we still gonna be around, what we gonna be dealing with, god damn. Okay, that's one. And then they have the right to try. Expansion allows terminal ill patients to access their experimental treatments not yet FDA approved. Don't do that. Basically, they're saying they're about to be y'all about to be guinea pigs. See, that's scary. See, that's the one right there. That's scary like what the hell? It ain't even approved by FDA yet. But you about to just do terminal ill patients, y'all just, and they just said it to experimental treatment. Yeah, y'all about to just do terminal ill patients. Y'all just, and they just said it to experimental treatment. Yeah, y'all about to be experiment. They tired of doing what is it called Rats, monkeys and pigs? Okay, so now it's the real people. Fentanyl trafficking, penalties, increased prison time for fentanyl-related crimes Okay, we know who that affects, so y'all should have been done that, okay.

Speaker 2:

Income tax cut Georgia, flat income tax cut. Georgia. Flat income tax rate dropped from 5.39 to 5.19 percent. Oh, 20 if that. That's 0.20, 0.020, not 20, though. You get what I'm saying. How they give you, that's two percent if that I think let me think about it again. No, but that percentile is really not a big difference. Really, just keep it at 5.39, like y'all would have got me if y'all went from 5.39 to 4.39 or 3.39. I'm like yeah, the military retirement tax exemption exempts all military retirement to pay from state income tax. Okay, distraction, free Education Act. It bans phones from kindergarten to eighth grade classroom unless it's used for instruction. So kids can't have their phones. Okay, so when stuff hits the fan, what they gonna do with their phones? Or when a teacher sit there and beat the living crap out of a kid and the kid talks back to them, we ain't got. No, it depends what side you're?

Speaker 2:

on from that, the Vet Loan Forgiveness Pilot that launches student loans, relief for veterans who serve in rural areas, for vets I'm not talking about vets who fought for the war- oh, okay. For veterans, for thin animals.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

If they basically went to school for that and they serve in rural areas, they get student non-relief because they are in rural areas where there are strays and shit on the side of the road. Cats and dogs Make it make sense. Or is it in the rural areas where they're doing with farms and have to deal with their pigs and stuff?

Speaker 2:

because, they're sick, then okay, they get forgiveness. It's like I'm going to go over there and just be on this edge, do like this and take care of this pig, because I went to veterinarian school and I ain't got to pay back my own loan. So that's what that is. Pet protection order, y Pet protection order Y'all giving more stuff for pets than human beings Like really, unless judge includes family pets in domestic violence. Protective orders Okay, we'll come back to that another day. Ag chemical liability shield can limit lawsuits against fertilized and pesticides companies. Now, that's a plus. They've been poisoning us from the beginning of time. Okay, human composing legalized natural organic reduction like human composing in Georgia. I don't really care about that.

Speaker 2:

You know, Uh-oh, composing my apologies there. Um, what is the vince dooley battlefield trust that's something about. It has nothing to do with creates a trust fund preserving georgia, historical battlefields, like really, y'all lost. Y'all did not win the war, didn't they lose? Yes, so y'all want to? Okay, they still hold on to that loss. Iv um ivf protection, which it protects assets into uh federal federalization services from restriction legal action, and then the survivor justice acts allows reduced sentences for victims of abuse who commit crimes under duress. So so basically, that's a great thing, because I just saw how that was in a different state I don't think it was in this in a state when the woman who uh, um, you know, keep you the guy who was molesting the kids in her daycare, who was her husband, and she keep you with him or do whatever, and she has served some time, but they released her, so that I mean, that's kind of similar, but I get it.

Speaker 2:

So, basically, if you're being part of a DV doing that, and you protect yourself, they normally lock you away, throw it away the key because they say you committed a crime. But if a motherfucker beat my ass and I decide to have the courage to stab them or shoot them, if something happens to them, then that's basically going to give them a leeway to help them.

Speaker 2:

Good we need it Because I feel like I'm about to man. It's a lot going on and y'all be careful out there. Y'all heard what they're doing now Going out the Ice, ice, baby. Too Cold, too Cold. Oh, they're doing now uh going out the ice, ice baby.

Speaker 2:

Too cold, too cold. Oh, they're going after the um, the Haitians. So Haitians now ice, ice baby's coming after that. And what does Haitians look like? Haitians look like black people. So right now, remember, they're going against brown and black. So if you're american and even if you're born and raised here and you're black, if they feel that you are haitian and you should be not here, they're gonna pull up on you and grab you. That's fucking horrible and take you somewhere that you're not supposed to be taken, just like the others.

Speaker 2:

So y'all be careful out there. There's no, it's no fear factor. I'm just telling y'all, y'all just look out, because I guess they say first they went after who? First they went after those us gays, then the trans within the gay community, then they went after brown and now they're going after blacks, like you said, d blacks, but they still ain't go after no YTs that came from UK, because there's a lot of Ukrainians and a lot of people from UK that's over here illegally and even though, if they waiting on their you know whatever they have to do to be legalized their immigration stuff and they're waiting on a due process, you ain't pulling and yanking them out. But I saw the video, though. They went and they were in New York Tried to do the Haitians oh, it was a group of a whole bunch of them. Oh, they were fighting. The whole group of people was fighting, like they were about to let them take them away. So that's all I got.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, that was, uh law lesson for today in the in the podcast. So, yes, um, it's a nice quick one today. Nothing really happening, probably more coming up because we got, like I said before, two shows to talk about and other things, yep, so probably more stuff to be. And then, of course, we break time for the 4th of July, so we'll have more stuff next time to be talking about. So thanks for listening for this little quick, little one. Two little talky talky. Once again. You can follow me at Hurtis13 on IG. That's it, yes, and you can follow me at Hurtis13 on IG.

Speaker 2:

That's it, yes, and you can follow me on IG, youtube and TikTok, and it's all on my IG and that's TiffyToolTime, y'all remember. It's T-I-F-F-I-T-O-O-L-E-N-T-I-M, because it's time for me to go.

Speaker 1:

Yes, yes, it is Okay, yeah, it is okay. So thank you again for uh coming to listen to doing me so I don't read you.

Speaker 2:
